So we are in need of charts for our flight to the UK/Scotland! The trip is planned for Mid-June and we have a general idea of the route. Wim and me decided to get the charts at the Pilot shop at Lelystad airport and taking a detour via the Schiphol CTR and Amsterdam center.
We took off and flew in the direction of Zoetermeer, and saw the High Speed Railway (go from Amsterdam and Paris in 3 hours) which is nearing completion.
From Zoetermeer on to the coast and than ask Amsterdam Information to inform Schiphol of us coming. The answer was a confirmation and Squawk code (0060 in this case) which air traffic control uses to identifies aircraft under their command. (We then turn some dials on the transponder-box in our plane to represent the code "0060", and switch it on. Normally you have to turn it off in the Schiphol area, otherwise the air traffic controllers can hardly separate all the radar blips from the big birds' blips)!
We entered the Schiphol CTR and flew over Hoofddorp to the threshold of the 36L (Polderbaan) on to the tower, where we had to hold (orbiting around it ) for landing traffic on the 06. {youtube}5s7htlKaNRw{/youtube} After that to the to the north and then over to the center of Amterdam. With the sun in our face we enjoyed the beauty of the IJ-lake (pronounced in dutch as "aye-mere"), part of the Ijsselmeer and the Oostvaardersplassen. A smooth landing at Lelystad airport followed.
We bought the maps, had drinks and lunch and returned to Rotterdam. Great trip again!

I took off with the parents of Natasja as payload. Natasja is a colleague of me and her father has dreamed about the skies since he was young. It was a rebound flight: the last time we ended up with "less than healthy" visibility once we reached 1000 feet. Although the local metar read "more than 10 kilometers visibility", it was no weather for VFR (visual flight rules).
Today, however, was a different thing. I seldomly saw these clear skies. Not even the brown polution layer visible: great to fly.
We asked for a direct Den Haag, and soon got rid of any clouds above us. A right turn towards the north brought us abeam Scheveningen Pier, Valkenburg aerodrome (no gliders today), Katwijk, Noordwijk and finally Zandvoort. We asked Amsterdam information (whom we contacted to cross the Valkenburg CTR, although the airport has officially closed down) to inform Schiphol of our intentions to fly overhead Schiphol airport.
Along the way it was tulip field galore!
Upon reaching Zandvoort almost we switched over to Amsterdam tower west (small tower abeam the 18R/36L runway), and after obtaining the squawk code 0060 we were cleared for crossing the controlled zone. At Hoofddorp we were asked to contact the main tower, who asked us whether we were familiar with the Victor departure. This wasn't my first time over Schiphol and I re-read the AIP that morning, so "Affirm". My radio on board didn't recieve too well, tones were very flat, so I missed a call from Schiphol tower which isn't very professional of course.
There were take-offs in progress from the 36L (360 degrees: northbound) and landings on the 06 (60 degrees: northeastbound), which is always very cool to see!
After Schiphol the Vinkeveense plassen (small lakes: see photo) followed which is a very pretty sight as well, and I confirmed leaving the controlled zone to the tower.
We turned away towards Gouda and flew overhead the Reeuwijkse plassen, where probably a sailing competition was held.
A nice landing completed this great flight! Natasja got me a very nice bottle of whiskey (Glenfiddich Solere reserve) for taking her parents up there, thanks a lot!
